Prison Commission

Home Office,

Whitehall, S.W

11th February, 1913.

You

With reference to your letter of the 7th instant (2882/1913),

asking whether English Prison Officers would be attracted by

the conditions of service laid down for Prison Officers in

Hong Kong, I am directed by the Prison Commissioners to say

that, before answering your question, they would be glad to

have information on the following points;-

(1) In what grade would the English Prison officer have to

join?

(2) Is uniform allowed?

(3) Is it essential that officers who occupy bachelor

quarters shall be single, or, if married, are they allowed to

live outside and draw lodging allowance?

BQ,

(4) Do the appointments carry the right to pension, and if

on what scale?

(5) Would the Home Prison Service count towards pension?

(6) Would passages or passage money for the officers and

their families be provided?

(7) What are the regulations for leave?

The Under Secretary of State

Colonial Office, B.V.

I am, Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

a J.

Ant.

Blwall
